How To Farm For Profit
How to Make Money in Groundnut Farming
Groundnut is a crop that has a very high demand because of its usefulness in our economy. Uses of groundnut: can be eating (as fried, roasted or boiled), groundnut oil, making groundnut cake, feed for livestock etc. Groundnut only takes about three (3) – four (4) months to mature.
Another good thing about groundnut is that it can be cultivated two (2) times in a farming season. Now, let us head to the step by step of groundnut production.
STEPS IN PRODUCING GROUNDNUT
1. Land Clearing: Check land clearing as in potato cultivation.
2. Seed: If you don’t have your seed, you can head to the market and get the seeds. The quantity depends on the size of the land. You can roughly check while giving about 30cm space for each seed from each other. Practice on that gauging will lead to perfection of such quantification. Even when you have excess of the seed, you can still boil/roast/fry and eat or better make some oil for your kitchen need. You must not wait for big groundnut oil expeller to make your oil. You can use small manual oil press machine.
3. Tilling the Soil: InPotato processing, we made heaps but in processing groundnut, we just need to till the land. You can still clear the bushes in your previous yam or potato farm and level the heaps that remained after harvesting them.
4. Planting the Seeds: Planting groundnut can be done in March when you must have allowed about 3-4 rainfall on the land you have tilled for the cultivation. It is advisable to give good space of at least 25cm for each planted seed to aid good yield. At the time of planting groundnut, it might please you to add another crop like guinea corn. If you wish to plant guinea corn, read the step 5 but if you don’t, jump to step 6
5. Adding Guinea Corn: If you want to inter-crop groundnut with guinea corn, you must first spread the guinea corn on the portion you want to plant groundnut so that while opening soil to put the groundnut seed, the sands will be covering the spread guinea corns to avoid birds from eating them up.
6. Weeding & Manure: Weeding and adding manure to groundnut is the same as in potato. But, you have to weed the guinea corn twice since it takes about 5 -6 months for it to mature
7. Harvesting: Harvesting should be around June/July. It takes only about three months for groundnut to mature.
8. Storage & Sales: After harvesting, you can sell out immediately or dry them well and store them for future sell. You can choose to process it further by making its edible oil which is of high demand. After making the oil, the cake that you pressed the oil out from is another product you can sell or convert for your livestock feed if you are keeping livestock
9. Planting for the Second Time: I will advise you to plant for the second time which normally kicks off in August to be harvested in December if you live anywhere in swampy areas (I mean where waters sprout out of the soil or where irrigation is possible). This is because harvesting the seconding planting in dry land is a big job. It will make you suffer. So plant the second if you live around such water area
10. These are the steps to follow. Now, let’s check the cost to cultivate a plot of land.
Clearing …………..… ₦2,000
Seed…………………. …. ₦500 (this depends on where you are, it can be cheaper though it costs higher during planting season)
Making tilling …….……₦2,000 (you can even do it yourself)
Total ……….…………….₦4,500
If all works out well you are going to get about 3 large bags of the groundnut (the bag, farmers in Nigeria call 27). As we usually do, your assignment now is to ask how much such large bag of groundnut is sold and multiply by 3. Then subtract ₦4,500 from it and see the gain yourself. If you dare to invest up to ₦45,000, calculate your profit!!! Check out the profit yourself so you don’t think it is manipulation. This is what you get in three months and you still have to add other crop which will improve your cool profit.

HOW TO FARM COCKROACHES
Raising Cockroaches (Intentionally)
simple instructions on how to make a happy habitat for cockroaches to thrive. Taking a look around my kitchen, it seems that a lack of work is involved in this task. This is pretty much true. But in case anyone wants to be sure of how to make a good habitat, this is how.
Step 1: Get Cockoaches
Get Cockroaches.
NOTE:
I put this step first because if you're going to order roaches you should do that before you make the habitat, so that by the time you're done, the roaches will arrive.
HOWEVER:
If you're going to catch roaches yourself, build the habitat before hand.
How to get roaches:
A) catch cockroaches that you find running (at work, at home, street, etc). They can be found in abundance in dark, damp areas: They need access to water and they like the dark. To catch them put moist food in your sink, turn off all lights, Wait near your sink with a plastic cup. Turn on the lights (or use a headlamp) and slap the cup on top of any cockroaches you find chowing down in your sink. Slide a piece of paper benieth the edge of the cup to trap the roach. Transport the roach to a container. It's best to collect them in a container which is already prepaired to raise them (see rest of instructable), because otherwise it will be hard to transfer all of them to a new container without losing some.
-OR-
B) buy cockroaches (almosy any species) from Roachman Willis:
http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/Roaches/Roachman.html
You send him a check, he sends you the cockroaches. He is very expedient, very helpful is you email him questions, and a pleasure to do business with. He's also the cheapest source of cockroaches anywhere. If you buy from a scientific biological supply company they cockroaches will be more than twice the price. One advantage of the latter is that you will be sure to get all fully grown roaches. But they will send the exact amount you ordered and some will probably die in shipment. Meanwhile Mr. Willis will send more than you ordered (to ensure you end up with as many as you ordered if not more). Also if you really need adults, you could probably specify this to Mr. Willis and he will oblige as best as possible.
The chick picture is one that came up on google images when I typed in 'catch roach', there weren't any better pictures.

Step 2: Make the Habitat
get a container with tall walls and which is farely wide (at least 7 inches.
Smear a thin layer of petrolium jelly (vaseline) all around the upper edge of the walls. Make this smear band about two or three inches thick. 90% cockroaches can't climb through vaseline, but check on the internet if you use a species other than periplaneta americana (what I have). In some species the nymphs can climb through the vaseline but older ones cannot.
Get some old newspaper, tear it into pieces about the length and width of your container. Crumple them up a couple times to give them texture. Lay them down in your container, one on top of the other. Make about five layers.
Get a large cap from some container lying aorund, it should be about two inches in diamter. Cut a square piece off a sponge so that the corners of the piece just barely touch the sides of the cap you have. Put this into your container, it will be the water dish. Add water until it reaches the rim of the cap you're using (this means the sponge is saturated and you'll have a reservoir of water to keep it that way).
NOTE:
Make sure there is not a big gap between the sponge and the cap edge, otherwise the roaches will have a hard time stepping onto the sponge to drink.
If you want to put on a top to the container make sure it's porous, otherwise it will get way to humid in there and mold will grow like crazy.

Step 3: Add the Roaches and Feed Them.
add the roaches. They will scurry in between the newspaper layers. I just feed them leftovers from my lunch every day at work. My lunch is either general tso's chicken or a lamb gyro with rice.
I drop in
white rice with gen tso's sauce on it
pieces of chicken
Cookie crumbs
fried rice
pickles
the tips of brocolli
and I usually add a smear of duck sauce to everything. Cause I like duck sauce.
I've lost a little respect for the roaches because they seem to enjoy the brocolli tips the most. The brocolli is the one part of my food that I refuse to eat, I use it as a weight to keep the chinese food container open. I used to tell the chinese people to stop putting it in my chicken but I think the cook is scared for my health. When the stupid roaches rush out to eat pieces of brocolli they make me feel guilty.

Starting a Turkey Farm – Sample Business Plan Template
The consumption of turkey meat has been in existence in some countries. These days others who didn’t use to record high patronage have started to do so. Why is this? Well, this is so because of the high cost of procuring turkey, as well as the fact that some type of meat is banned in some states.
Above all, if you are a entrepreneur and like the idea of dealing in turkey, then you may consider starting a business that is involved with raising turkey for profit. What are the several factors to be considered when this is a burning goal to be achieved? Here goes….
Starting a Turkey Farm – Sample Business Plan Template
1. Determine Whether to Do This
This is the first task that you have got to complete. You need to ask if you really have to raise turkey. Also, you would really need to ask if turkeys are meant for your farm. This is where the need for a turkey farming business plan comes into play because unlike raising chickens, turkeys require much more attention because you may have to deal with young turkey known as poults. You may also require spending more time with your new friends, as there a social and much friendlier than chickens.
2. Study about Turkeys
It is highly recommended that you set time out to study about turkeys, the various species there- if any, how to start a business as this, the capital needed to start one, how the day to day running of the business would be like, and what have you.
Getting the right answers to all these; means that you would be on your way to start on the right footing. You may want to consider asking an expert that is someone who is already in the line of business for some advice and snippets. You can also use the internet to garner some information.
3. Go Down to a Farm Yourself
This is not a type of business you want to start without having a firsthand experience about how things are done and run. It is for this reason that you have got to go down to a nearby farm to see how all these plays out. Be sure to go with a note book so that you are able to document as much as you want. Also ensure that you scale through this hurdle well as you have a lot to gain when you do this.
4. Determine What to Breed
It is very important that you determine the turkey breed that you want to breed. Make the decision of whether it would be the broad breasted white turkey, wild bronze turkey, or the broad breasted bronze turkey. In the United States of America for instance; the broad breasted white turkey is the most commercial one.
5. Begin to Build
Your next port of call would be to begin to build the turkey pen. This ten should have a size 10 by 10 feet and this size can categorically house between ten and twelve turkeys. If on the other hand you are looking to raise more than you may consider building a sun porch. A typical sun porch has size of about 8 by 10 feet. With the 8 by 10 sized spaces you can look plan to house between twenty and thirty turkeys.
6. Furnish pen
After you have successfully built the pen or sun porch, the next thin g to do would be to know what to place inside there. There should be a feeder, Water trough and litter area within the pen or sun porch. Be sure that you do not always fill the water trough to the brim so that the turkeys can avoid drowning in them as there have been cases of that sort.
7. Determine the Type of Feeds
There are different types of feeds and you have got to decide which it is you want to go for. For instance; there are the pre- starter feeds, starter feeds, grower feeds, and the finisher feeds. They all vary as the name indicates. This means that each feed serves as their age indicates. Do note that the feed you decide to settle for would show by the quality of turkey you rear.
8. Start and Be Watchful
Now that you have started to raise them, you have got to be cautious so that you do not let the turkeys drink cold water. Why is this important? This is especially important because cold water is lethal to turkeys. It is best that you give them lukewarm water to drink so as to avoid a bad consequence.
9. Advertise your Business
It is a thing of import that you tell and sundry about your turkey business. You can begin to tell people about your turkey business even before they are ripe for sale. This is so that your potential buyers can be aware and have at the back of their minds that there is a serious seller. Do not forget to let them know when the sales would likely take place.
10. Stay Informed
Do not relent in continuance training. This means that you must keep getting trained so that you can always stay informed. This is because one of the ways to stay at the top in this industry is to stay informed.
Now that you have read all the steps that is required of you to take in starting your own turkey business, you have to also know that businesses like this takes a little time to begin to yield profit and you must be ready to be patient.
